Mayor of Brentwood’s Christmas card competition winners announced

Date

Two young talents in the borough have won the competition to design the Mayor of Brentwood’s official Christmas card.

The Mayor, Councillor Mark Haigh, launched the Christmas card and Christmas poem competition inviting children from across the borough to embrace the festive spirit by submitting their best drawing for the front of the card and to write a poem for the message inside.

The Christmas card design competition was won by 8-year-old Sanjee, while the Christmas poem competition was won by 7-year-old Oran with his touching poem, ‘My Christmas Wish’. Both winners received a certificate, a copy of the official Christmas card featuring their work, and a book voucher. Oran was also given the distinguished opportunity to recite his poem at the Mayor’s Christmas Carol Service, and Sanjee took centre stage by helping the Mayor to switch on the Christmas lights at this year’s Lighting up Brentwood event.

Mayor of Brentwood Councillor Mark Haigh said, “It’s been a delight to see the creativity and festive cheer displayed in all the wonderful entries we received. I am truly inspired by the imagination and talent of these young artists and writers, it was heartwarming to see such talent. Sanjee’s artwork and Oran’s beautiful poem truly captured the joy and spirit of Christmas in Brentwood. I’m proud to showcase their work in this year’s Christmas card.”

My Christmas Wish by Oran

I make a Christmas Wish,

I bake it in a dish,

I fill it with Christmas cheer and Santa’s magic from the reindeers,

Luckily I make enough so I’ll give it to people to bring home,

Because some people are on their own,

And my wish is to have more Christmas cheer,

Every day in the year.
