Harewood engagement

Early engagement

The prospect of regeneration can be unsettling for those directly impacted. It was vital to engage early with residents who live in these homes, to limit any fears or anxiety. A dedicated residents’ support team was set up in February 2022 to start to engage with residents and immediate neighbours to the site. Our early engagement also provided the opportunity for these residents to influence the proposals at the early design stage.

March 2022

In early March, we held one to one meetings with residents living in the homes proposed for regeneration. We learnt a lot about them and what is important to them.

  • There is a strong sense of community
  • Residents generally felt safe
  • The Community Hall & shared outside space is highly valued
  • Nearby amenities (such as the Co-op and Post Office) are very useful and important

Residents also told us about things they would like in the future, such as:

  • Bigger living spaces and separate bedrooms
  • Improved security of communal accesses
  • Homes that are nicer to look at
  • Communal areas that are easier to maintain
  • Outside space (for socialising)

All this information was used by the design team to develop some early concept design options.

April 2022

In early April, we held three Community Concept Workshops over a period of two days. Two workshops were held with residents, and one was held with immediate neighbours to the site.

We shared three design options and spent time discussing and debating the merits of each option. We also asked residents to give us details on what they would like in the communal open space.

By the end of the two day event, one clear design option was highlighted and a lot of really useful information and opinions were given to the project team.
