Brentwood Borough Council and Co Wheels have launched a new Co-Wheels Car Club scheme that allows residents to book one of three on-street cars within 15 minutes of making a journey. The project offers residents and businesses the freedom to access a car without having to own it, adding convenience and accessibility to everyday life. The vehicles are available to book online or via the Co Wheels app and include an electric vehicle based at the Town Hall.
Research by Co-Wheels shows that Car clubs have been shown to reduce car dependence with, on average, each car club car removing between 10 and 15 privately owned cars from traffic. Car club members also walk, cycle and use public transport more after joining a club.
Co Wheels has put in place extra measures to ensure the highest level of cleanliness so every vehicle is professionally cleaned regularly, and all touch surfaces are cleaned with a revolutionary new disinfectant once a month that protects surfaces for up to 30 days.
Hourly rates start from £5.50 and there is no mileage charged for the electric vehicle and a rate of 18p per mile for the standard models.
Car keys are not required as Co Wheels Car Club members are issued with a smartcard to access the car not just in Brentwood but elsewhere in the UK where the scheme is operating
