Herongate Village Hall
Herongate village Hall is located on Brentwood Road in the village of Herongate and was previously under the decision making authority of a local trust. The trustees of which have now all passed on or moved away and there is presently no group maintaining, managing or overseeing this hall which has fallen into disrepair. There has been ongoing maintenance issues with the Hall and it has deteriorated over the years which can be contributed to the fact that the building is not under any one group's responsibility.
The Trust was registered to the Charities Commission and before any decisions on the Hall can now be made, permission needs to be sought from the Charities Commission to give a recognised body the ability to make decisions over the halls future.
Due to no other body or group presently stepping forward, the Council has done so and engaged with the Charities Commission to determine what is required in order that decisions over the future of the Hall can be made. The Commission have advised that in order for a body to gain decision making powers, they need to inform the local residents that this is what is intended. This is achieved through the erection and publication of a Public Notice at the site and in a local newsletter and in local notice boards. The Notice must be up for 30 days, and representations need to be made to the Charity Commission and not Brentwood Borough Council.
If no representations are made to the Commission, they will grant decision making powers to Brentwood Borough Council.
If all is agreeable and the Commission give the responsibility of the decision making power for the Hall to the Council, a public meeting will be arranged through the local Parish Council to present options for the future of the Hall.
Notices will be erected on site on the 27 February 2023. The site is highlighted with a red line in the image below.
